    Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD) to start MA Programme under its new school namely ‘School of Law, Governance and Citizenship’ (SLGC) from the current academic session 2017-18 at Karampura Campus

    About SLGC:

    The SLGC will offer M.A. in Law, Politics and Society

    Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD) has established the School of Law Governance and Citizenship that will offer an interdisciplinary approach to law, culture, politics and social structures. The School will begin by offering an M.A. in Law, Politics and Society this academic year, but plans to start specialized M.A. and L.L.M. courses over the next few years.

    Professor Lawrence Liang has been appointed as the dean of the school.

    Duration: 2 Years

    Aim:

    The School aims to open out the domain of law in a creative manner to be studied collaboratively across the humanities, social sciences and other disciplines. M.A.in Law, Politics and Society has been designed to focus both on foundational courses in legal reasoning, as well as covering a range of contemporary legal issues and debates. The M.A. program will be attractive to students from a range of disciplines interested in a critical engagement with the social and political dimensions of law including law graduates interested in deepening their engagement with sociological and historical jurisprudence, students of politics who want to focus on law and legal institutions, and sociology students interested in acquiring a better understanding of the social life of law.

    The new M.A. programme is oriented towards those interested in deepening their understanding of law towards a career of research, teaching and legal practice. The programme will be useful to those who plan to work in advocacy, in policy, non- governmental organizations and those who would like a more informed approach to the practice of law. For students who come a non-law background it offers an entry point into a study of law and will equip them with a unique opportunity to develop their research and skills in this field.

    About the Programme:

    The new M.A. programme is a two-year degree that will offer a combination of theoretical courses (such as jurisprudence and constitutional theory & history) as well as courses which are more skills oriented (legal method), while the electives will introduce students to specialised areas of scholarship including cutting edge socio legal questions. The electives on offer include Environmental Justice; Law and Culture; Criminal Justice and Policing; Law, Media & Technology; Human Rights Law in India; Postcolonial Legal Theory; Law and Literature; Supreme Court and Politics in India; Gender, Sexuality and Law; and Global Justice and Governance.

    The M.A. programme has 42 seats, and will be housed in AUD’s Karampura campus.

    Admission will be based on an entrance test and an interview. The entrance test will comprise of essay type questions testing awareness of themes related to law, governance and citizenship; writing ability; and analytical reasoning. Partial/Full fee waiver and scholarships are available. Full fee waiver of tuition fee will be extended to students belonging to SC/ST/Persons with Disabilities categories.
