    The DIPP Chair on IPR, National Law University, Jodhpur, is organizing a conference on Issues in Copyright and Technology on April 8-9, 2017.

    The organizers invite students, research scholars, faculty members and other professionals to submit papers on these issues. Authors of selected submissions will be invited to present their papers at National Law University, Jodhpur.

    The rapid evolution of new technologies has raised serious questions on the utility and application of copyright laws. Many argue that copyright hinders development by limiting access to several important works and creations in the technological era. Others maintain that with the growth of internet-aided infringement, copyright regimes need to become even stricter to protect rights-holders and the incentive to create.

    Themes:

    During the course of the conference, the following themes will be discussed and debated upon:

    • Access to Knowledge and Information

    • Digital Copyright

    • Technology Protection Measures and Digital Rights Management

    • Broadcasting Treaty, Issues related with Broadcasting

    • Issues in Software Copyright

    • Online Copyright Infringement

    • Fair Use and Fair Dealing

    • WIPO Copyright Treaty

    • WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty

    • Copyright Piracy

    • Cinematography: Copyright Societies, Royalty Issues, Digitization and Internet Issues, Performer’s Right.

    • Libraries and Archives


    Submission Guidelines:

    • The submissions must relate to issues involving copyright and technology.

    • The submissions must be original. Plagiarism of any sort will result in immediate disqualification.

    • The word limit per submission is 10,000 words (including footnotes). Submissions beyond this limit will only be considered in exceptional circumstances.

    • Each submission must be accompanied by an abstract of less than 300 words.

    • The submission should not have been published or be under consideration for publication elsewhere.

    • Only one submission per author is allowed.

    • Co-authorship of up to two authors is allowed.

    • The submission must not bear any identification sign of the author(s).

    • Submissions must be sent before February 28, 2017, 11:59 P.M. to nluj.ipchair@gmail.com with the subject “Conference Submission (Title of Paper).”

    • The submission email must specify the name(s) of the author(s), phone number and affiliation.


    Important Dates:

    1. Issue of call for papers: January 22, 2017

    2. Last date of full paper submission: February 28, 2017

    3. Release of list of participants selected for the conference: March 10, 2017

    4. Conference dates: April 8-9,


    Registration Fees:

    Participants who have been selected for presenting their papers will have to pay a registration fee of Rs. 2,000/- per person. This fee will cover participation in the conference, shared accommodation for the conference dates (April 7-9, 2017), lunch for the conference dates and a conference dinner.

    The fee for participants who do not want to avail of accommodation will be Rs. 1,200/-. The organizers will do their utmost to assist such participants in finding alternate accommodation.
