    The Jharkhand Legal Service Authority (JHALSA) has started door-door legal awareness programme titled ‘Vidhik Sewa Apke Dwar (legal service at you doorsteps)’ redress grievances of poor and downtrodden people who could not access judicial delivery system due to monetary and other problems. It would also educate people about free legal services available to them.

    The 100-day plan was launched at district level across the state on the occasion of Legal Service Day on Thursday.

    The programme aims is to reach out to every household in every village in state. However the emphasis will be on areas that are economically and socially backward.

    “Teams of para-legal volunteers have been formed in this regard. During the campaign they wouldidentify persons who are in need of legal assistance, but are unable approach justice delivery system due to economic or other disabilities. The district legal service authority (DLSA) concerned would be apprised regarding the said person so that immediate steps are taken to provide legal services to them,” stated a DLSA report in this regard.

    Earlier, JHALSA had, in its letter to judicial officers of districts, stated that there was an urgent need to reach out to women, children, differently-abled persons, tribals, persons belonging to the scheduled caste, industrial workmen, prisoners, persons suffering from undeserved wants and the persons with annual income of less than Rs 1 lakh, and provide them free and competent legal services.

    “Our para-legal volunteers and the other volunteers would visit the villages on weekdays while the judicial officers would take part in the programme during their holidays,” said member secretary JHALSA AK Rai.
