  • Recruitment details of batch 2015, W.B. National University of Juridical Sciences

“Day Zero” recruitments were conducted at the W.B. National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) Kolkata by the student-run Recruitment and Placement Committee (RPC) on 16th April 2014 at the University campus. Six top law firms in the country, that is Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A.Shroff and Company (AMSS), AZB & Partners, Khaitan & Co, Trilegal, J.Sagar Associates (JSA) and Luthra & Luthra Law Offices participated in the day-long recruitment process.

A total of 15 students were offered jobs (excluding overlapping offers) in the recruitment process by the six firms and 12 other students were offered pre-placement offers (PPOs) before the Day Zero Process (total breakdown of offers indicated in the table below) taking the total number of accepted job offers so far to 27. Most of the law firms offer a highly competitive pay package of around INR 12 lakhs per annum, making it one of the most coveted jobs in the country.

Commenting on the Day Zero process Vice Chancellor of NUJS, Professor (Dr.) P. IshwaraBhat said, “The batch of 2015 is a highly talented and competitive batch. The Day Zero process was well organised by the student-run RPC and the number of job offersindicates the merit of the students and the strength of the institution.”

SamkitSethia, student co-ordinator of RPC said, “We have managed to secure jobs for a substantial number of students and are satisfied with the response in the Day Zero process. Apart from the PPOs and placements at Day Zero, a large number of students did not opt for the recruitment process because they have either chosen to pursue higher studies or alternate career options such as joining NGOs, litigation practice, civil services etc.”

Adds ArjunBhagi, another student co-ordinator of RPC,“The important thing about the Day Zero recruitments at NUJS which sets us apart from the other law schools is that the recruiters hired a diverse range of students and not necessarily on the basis of academic scores. Since we have had an excellent start, we hope to host a large number of law firms, corporations, PSUs and lawyers offer the best possible job options to all those sitting for recruitments.

Based on the response of the law firms and appreciation about the quality of candidates, we believe that we would be able to secure one hundred per cent placements for our batch in the coming months.”

The Day Zero and PPO figures as well as vacation schemes in foreign law firms are indicated in the table below. The final recruitment figures of the 2015 batch along with any further comments about the recruitment process shall be released at the end of the academic year 2014-15.

RPC would like to thank all student members, faculty advisors, volunteers, seniors and administrative staff for their tireless efforts. RPC would especially like to place its appreciation on record for Vice Chancellor Prof. Bhat for his constant support and encouragement.
