In an appeal to the Delhi High Court to review and increase the sum payable to a lawyer after retirement, a response has been sought from the Ministry of Law and Justice, Delhi Government and Advocates’ Welfare Fund Trustee.

The increment has reportedly been sought by petitioner –lawyer O.P. Faizi, asserting that "the amount payable to the advocate members of the fund under the Central Act is too meager to be called a financial assistance in consonance with dignity of the profession and the growing needs in old age."

The amount paid by the Advocates’ Welfare Fund Trustee in Delhi has also been described as meager by the petitioner Ashish Agarwal, when compared with other states. The Centre is being represented by Advocate Neeraj Chowdhary.

The matter will be heard by a bench comprising of Chief Justice G. Rohini and Justice R.S Endlaw on September 10.
