    Chairman of the Jharkhand Human Rights Commission Justice RR Prasad passed away during his treatment for cancer in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Sunday. Justice Prasad had also served as chief justice of High Court of Manipur and a judge in Jharkhand High Court.

    Justice Prasad was born on 1st July 1955. He did his schooling and graduation from Bihar. He graduated in Science and obtained his LL.B. degree from Patna Law College, as per information from Jharkhand High Court sources.

    He was enrolled as an advocate in Bihar State Bar Council, Patna, in 1980 and practiced in civil, criminal and writ matter at Patna High Court. He joined Superior Judicial Service as Additional District Judge in May 1991, and was promoted to the post of the district judge on 8th June 2001.

    He joined as Registrar General, High Court of Jharkhand, Ranchi, in June 2001. He was appointed as a judge of High Court of Jharkhand in February 2006. He was later transferred to Manipur High Court, where he was elevated as chief justice. After retirement, he was appointed as the chairman of the Human Rights Commission in Jharkhand.

    Chief Minister Raghubar Das expressed condolence over the death of Justice Prasad. Several other organizations and individuals have also expressed grief on his death.

    General secretary of the Advocates’ Association Hemant Shikarwar said he had been taking cancer treatment for a long time.
