    The Government of India through 'NITI Aayog' is organizing an high profile ‘National Initiative towards Strengthening Arbitration and Enforcement in India’ in New Delhi, in order to promote India as a global hub for arbitration amongst international practitioners, corporate houses and the Indian legal fraternity.

    The three day conference scheduled to be held from 21st October to 23rd October, 2016, is being organized with active support from six international arbitration institutions- HKIAC, ICC, KLRCA, LCIA, PCA and SIAC. Ministry of Law and Justice, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, National Legal Services Authority, NILERD, International Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution and legal fraternity have also been involved in organizing the event.

    The big time event is open for experts, practitioners/representatives from national and international arbitration organizations, legal practitioners, in-house counsel, industry associations, corporate representatives, small and medium enterprises, and legal academia.

    As per the event schedule, the key-note address will be delivered by Finance Minister Mr. Arun Jaitley, followed by Presidential Address by Chief Justice of India Justice T.S. Thakur, Chief Guest’s Address by President Pranab Mukherjee.

    The Panel discussion on the Dos and Don’ts of case management of Arbitration will be moderated by Justice S.S. Nijjar (former SC Judge), Ms. Jacomijn van Haersolte-van Hof (Jackie) (Director General, LCIA), Ms. Sarah Grimmer (Secretary General, HKIAC), Ms. Rajinder Bassi (Partner, Kirkland & Ellis International LLP), Mr. Benjamin Hughes (Associate Professor, Seoul National University Law School), Mr. Darius J. Khambata (Senior Advocate), and Mr. Vinayak Pradhan (Consultant, Messrs. Skrine Advocates & Solicitors).

    The Panel discussion on “Court Support for Arbitration in its Three Stages: Before, During and Post Rendering of the Arbitral Award” will be moderated by Dr. Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri (Judge, Supreme Court of India), Dr. Justice D.Y. Chandrachud (Judge, Supreme Court of India), Mr. Justice R.V. Raveendran (Former Judge, Supreme Court of India), Mr. Janak Dwarkadas (Senior Advocate), Ms. Sherina Petit (Board Member, LCIA), and Mr. Arvind P. Datar (Senior Advocate).

    The Panel discussion on “An Outsider’s Perspective of Arbitrations in India” will be moderated by Mr. Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde (Judge, Supreme Court of India), Mr. Christopher K. Tahbaz (Partner, Debevoise & Plimpton), Mr. Nish Shetty (Partner, Head, Litigation & Dispute Resolution (Asia-Pacific), Clifford Chance), Mr. Abhinav Bhushan (Director, South Asia, ICC Arbitration & ADR, ICC), Mr. Christopher To (Executive Director, Construction Industry Council), and Prof. Douglas S Jones AO (Consultant, Clayton Utz).
