The Supreme Court, on Thursday, extended the time for counseling for admissions to Medical and Dental Colleges in Madhya Pradesh by three days.

The order was passed by a Bench comprising Justice S.A. Bobde and Justice L. Nageswara Rao, on a fresh application filed by the Madhya Pradesh Directorate of Medical Education, seeking an extension for complying with the directions issued in connection with NEET counseling by the Jabalpur Bench of the High Court.

This was in furtherance of the Supreme Court order issued on 29 August, wherein it had directed the Madhya Pradesh Government to draw up a fresh list of candidates for medical admission, removing those who had secured admissions through fake domicile certificates.

A Bench led by Justice S.A. Bobde had then directed, “Looking to the extraordinary circumstances, we consider it appropriate to grant 10 days' time from today to the petitioners-State to comply with the directions given by the High Court vide the impugned order. We order accordingly.”

The Apex Court had, thereby, rejected the challenge to the High Court order, which was issued on a Petition filed by Ms. Tarishi Verma and several others who had alleged that several candidates from other States had fraudulently secured admissions.

“It is directed that the state authorities shall conduct counselling, draw up a list of candidates eligible under the date quota by taking into consideration and treating as final the option and information regarding the State to which the candidate belongs that has been furnished by him in the NEET form submitted by him,” the High Court had then observed.
