    The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) , on 11th May 2024, organized the 2nd National Lok Adalat of 2024, spanning across Taluks, Districts, and High Courts in the 20 States/UTs.

    The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) successfully organized the 2nd National Lok Adalat of the year 2024 in the Taluks, Districts and High Courts in the 20 States/UTs on 11th May 2024, – Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Chandigarh, Delhi, Goa, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Sikkim, Tripura and Uttarakhand, towards a justice system that fosters affordability, accessibility and inclusivity.,” the press release read.

    Lok Adalat provides a platform for dispute resolution that encourages conciliation and promotes amicable settlements. This 2nd National Lok Adalat of this year was organized under the leadership of Supreme Court Justice Sanjiv Khanna, who is also an Executive Chairman of NALSA.

    The Lok Adalat marked the settlement of 7,71,187 cases. These cases included 3,21,959 pre-litigation cases and 4,49,228 pending cases of several legal issues, including criminal compoundable offenses, traffic challans, revenue cases, and more. The total settlement amount in these cases reached an approximate sum of Rs. 2733.79 crores, highlighting the substantial relief provided to litigants.

    As of 6:00 PM today – a significant number of 7,71,187 cases have been settled at the 2nd National Lok Adalat on 11.05.2024 including 3,21,959 pre-litigation cases and 4,49,228 pending cases of criminal compoundable offences, traffic challans, revenue cases, bank recovery cases, motor accident claims, cheque dishonour cases, labour disputes, matrimonial disputes (excluding divorce cases), land acquisition cases, IPR or consumer matters, and other civil cases. The approximate value of the total settlement amount in these cases was Rs. 2733.79 crores. The number of settled cases will rise as reports are awaited from some State Legal Services Authorities.”

    At the end, the release underscored the success of the National Lok Adalat by successful disposal of such a significant number of cases.

    The successful disposal of these cases reflects the success of the National Lok Adalat upholding NALSA's commitment to provide comprehensive legal remedies that is not only equitable and just but also easily accessible to all sections of society.”
