    A Special NIA Court in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow District today awarded death penalty to one Ahmad Murtaza Abbasi who was arrested last year in April on the allegations of forcefully entering the Gorakhnath Temple last year in April and attacking security personnel deployed at the premises with a sickle.

    After hearing the case continuously for 60 days, Special judge of the ATS court Vivekanand Sharan Tripathi convicted Abbasi under Section 121 (Waging, or attempting to wage war, or abetting waging of war, against the Government of India) and Section 307 (Attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). 

    Abbasi had attacked two PAC security personnel deployed at the premises with a sickle due to which, such constables were injured in the incident. He was arrested soon thereafter after the security personnel deployed there had overpowered him.

    As per an official statement of Prashant Kumar, additional director general of police (ADG-Law and Order), Abbasi had been trained by ISIS. Investigation revealed that Abbasi had also gone to Nepal and he was influenced with the ideology of terrorist organizations. In fact, the police had allegedly recovered Jihadi literature and inciting audio and videos from him.
