ED Seeks Thoothukudi Court's Permission To Assist DVAC In Disproportionate Assets Case Against TN Minister Anitha Radhakrishnan

The petition was filed by the prosecutor under Section 301 and 302 of the CrPC read with Section 66 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act to provide additional information to the DVAC. The court has allowed the request of the Prosecutor not to examine any witnesses till the application is heard.

The DVAC had proceeded against Radhakrishnan  for amassing property worth Rs 4.90 crore beyond his income during the period from May 2001 and May 2006. The Case was also registered against his wife, sons and brothers. The ED had also registered an ECIR based on the case.

Radhakrishnan had earlier approached the Madras High Court in June last year seeking quashing of the proceedings initiated by the Enforcement Directorate against him. Though the High Court had vacated an earlier order of stay, the order of stay was revived by the Supreme Court, directing the high court to dispose of the case on merits as expeditiously as possible. The high court in December last year extended the interim stay.
