The Supreme Court will be getting four new Court rooms and new waiting areas on reopening, according to a letter addressed to the SCBA members by the SCBA President, Mr. Rupinder Singh Suri.

Each of these Court rooms will have a seating capacity of about 75, as opposed to the present seating capacity of 35. Two Courts would be situated on the side of Appu Ghar, while the other two would be on the other side on a floor above the present Court rooms. The Court would also have waiting areas for lawyers, with the facility to view the display board.

Further, the consultation room on top of Library 2 is to be converted into a waiting area for lawyers, and a new consultation room will be provided to the SCBA.

“These infrastructural changes would go a long way in reducing the present pressure on the current infrastructure available. These changes are also likely to distribute the pressure on both wings of the Supreme Court,” the letter states.

Besides, while commending the Supreme Court Registry for the plan that seems “well thought of”, the letter adds, “The extreme challenge would be to finish entire exercise before reopening. If it happens, it would be great credit to the Supreme Court Registry.”
