In a surprising turn of events at the Supreme Court today, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud took swift action during a court proceeding when he confiscated the mobile phone of a person who was engaged in a phone conversation inside Courtroom 1. Miffed by the lack of decorum exhibited by the lawyer, the CJI asked the lawyer to be careful in the future.

The incident unfolded as the proceedings were underway in Courtroom 1 before a bench comprising CJI DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala, and Justice Manoj Misra. A person in the courtroom was speaking on the phone within the Court hall, prompting the Chief Justice to halt the proceedings and address the individual directly.

CJI Chandrachud exclaimed in Hindi, "Yeh kya market hai jo aap phone pe baat kar rahe hai? Inka mobile le lo..." which roughly translates to, "Is this a marketplace that you are speaking on the phone? Confiscate their mobile phone."

The Chief Justice proceeded to instruct the court master to collect the mobile phone from the lawyer in question, reinforcing the importance of maintaining decorum in the courtroom.

He continued by issuing a stern warning, stating, "Be careful in the future. Judges see everything. We may be looking at the papers, but we have eyes everywhere."
