Why Justice Muralidhar Wasn't Offered Supreme Court Judgeship? Three Eminent Jurists Ask Collegium

Eminent jurists Fali S Nariman, Senior Advocate, Justice Madan B Lokur, former Supreme Court judge and Sriram Panchu, Senior Advocate have jointly written an article questioning the Supreme Court's collegium for not considering recently retired judge Justice S Muralidhar for elevation to the Top Court.

In an article written in The Indian Express, they described Justice Muralidhar as one among "country’s finest judges" and a "treasured asset" and mentioned some of the landmark judgments authored by him. In the article titled "A question for the collegium: Why was Justice S Muralidhar not brought to the Supreme Court?", the authors also made a special mention of the manner in which Justice Muralidhar slammed the Delhi Police for not taking timely action against provocative speeches during the 2020 Delhi riots. They also referred to the reforms ushered in by Justice Muralidhar as the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.

"Why was this judge not taken to the Supreme Court when he is so supremely qualified and has performed so brilliantly? With such merit on display, along with matchless integrity and probity, on what grounds was he denied his rightful place?", they asked the Collegium. The article can be read here.
