    LHSS Collective of MNLU Mumbai is inviting registrations for the Inaugural Edition of its Policy Drafting Competition in association with PLR Chambers, New Delhi and Right To Education Resource Center IIM Ahmedabad.

    SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

    • Submissions should be in English.
    • The Policy Submission shall not exceed 10,000 words excluding references.
    • The text font of the submission must be Times New Roman with size 12 for the main body and size 10 in case of footnotes. Line Spacing should be set to 1.5 for the main body and 1 for the footnotes. Alignment of the text should be justified.
    • Citation Style - APA Citation.
    • Page numbers must be mentioned at the bottom right corner.
    • Submissions should be made in pdf format only.
    • No more than 15 percent similarity will be allowed. If the plagiarism is between 15% to 20% there shall be a deduction of 10 marks and similarity of more than 20% will lead to disqualification.
    • The file should not contain any details of the Participants. The participants need to submit a separate file containing their personal details.
    • When the organizers publish the policies, they reserve the rights over the same.
    • The decisions of the organizers shall be final and binding. The organizers reserve the right to amend any condition or rules in the competition.
    • Non-adherence of any of the guidelines may lead to disqualification of the participants.

    GENERAL GUIDELINES

    • All submissions must be original and unpublished work of the author/s and should not have been submitted, accepted or published elsewhere.
    • Multiple entries by the same authors are not allowed.
    • The participants may be permitted to publish their submission elsewhere subject to obtaining permission of the organizers.
    • Withdrawal requests post both registration & submission are permitted but no refund will granted in either of the case.
    • All communications for clarifications or any doubt regarding the competition shall be made via email. Any attempt to personally contact any members of the organization is not encouraged.
    • LHSS Policy Drafting Competition has a strict no refund policy.

    GUIDELINES FOR THE STRUCTURE OF THE POLICY

    Policy Title: A short and simple title apt with the body of the submission.

    An Abstract: A summary of the Policy.

    Statement of Problem: A concise statement of the problem dealt with in the policy.

    Definitions: Defining uncommon or complex terms used in the policy.

    Policy Statement: A detailed policy statement which may answer the following questions:

    • Who is the primary audience required to follow the policy and what section of the society will be affected by it?
    • What are the major conditions and restrictions?
    • What is the scope of the policy?
    • Viability- Details on the ease of compliance & practicality of the policy
    • What are the special situations or exclusions, if any, where the policy shall not apply?

    Implementation Procedure: Reference to detailed procedures that are recommended in order to carry out the intent of the policy. It is advised to list the procedures in the order in which they are to be carried out. If there is no particular order, procedures should be listed alphabetically.

    Cost-benefit Analysis: An indication of the costs involved and the benefits aimed through the policy.

    Concluding Remarks: A brief concluding observation outlining the future roadmap.

    STRUCTURE

    All participants will be required to attend a one day virtual orientation program conducted by the partners on nuances of policy drafting. Only after completion of this session, will the submission of policies by the participants be valid. The winners and runners up will be invited to defend their policies at a virtual conclave in February 2024.

    In a bid to encourage insights from across disciplines, the organisers are opening the submissions to participants from two categories, "Law" and "Other Disciplines". Please note that the marking scheme for participants under both the categories is the same.

    LAW

    All participants enrolled in a 5 year BA/BBA/BSc/BCom LLB programme/ 3 year LLB programme/an LLM programme/a research programme in law from a recognized institution of higher education in India.

    OTHER DISCIPLINES

    All participants enrolled in undergraduate/postgraduate/research programmes in any other discipline from a recognized institution of higher education in India.
