The distinction of a Judge's life is defined by the justice of his judgements. Thus evaluated, the life of Justice Shivraj Patil has been an unending pursuit of justice based on truth, enriched by compassion and embellished by his unquestioned personal and intellectual integrity. His work and visage on the Bench reflected all of these.

Justice Patil's autobiography “Time Spent, Distance Travelled” gives us some glimpses of his Aristotelian 'good life' in all its manifestations. The applause and tributes contained in the book will remain a lasting testimony to an act of will in transcending the early challenges in his life,to optimise his potential.

The book is a tribute to the nobility of his life's purpose-an unending quest for justice steeped in humility. And his reminder of the profound wisdom that it is the visible and invisible Divine intervention and the warmth of our immediate surroundings that scripts our destiny, is the defining distinction of an inspiring life story.

The book is a must read for all those who seek to pursue a noble life.

Author is Senior Advocate of Supreme Court and Former Union Minister for Law and Justice.
