Call for Papers: The Indian Journal of Arbitration Law (IJAL)

The Indian Journal of Arbitration Law (IJAL)  is the flagship biannual journal of the Centre for Advanced Research and Training in Arbitration Law, published under the aegis of National Law University, Jodhpur. IJAL strives to achieve scholarly excellence with the aid of an eminent advisory board and an institution known for its academic excellence. IJAL is published in the months of January and July each year.

Each issue contains (i) articles, which analyse topics of permanent interest from major national jurisdictions as well as contemporary international issues, (ii) notes, which cover topical recent developments and on-going debates in the field and (iii) book reviews. IJAL is announcing its upcoming issue, Issue 1 of Volume V, which is to be published in July 2016. The deadline for submission of manuscripts for the forthcoming issue is April 15, 2016. However, IJAL accepts articles year-round and any manuscript submitted after the aforesaid deadline will be considered for publication in the next issue i.e. Issue 2 of Volume V. Submission Guidelines

The following is an indicative list highlighting the scope of the journal:



  • International Commercial Arbitration;
  • Institutional Arbitration;
  • Multilateral Arbitration Conventions;
  • Inter-State Disputes subject to Arbitration;
  • Investor-State Dispute Settlement Mechanism;
  • Investment Treaty Arbitration;
  • Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanisms;
  • Jurisdiction-specific issues in Arbitration; and
  • UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration.


Contribution Guidelines



  1. IJAL seeks submissions under the following categories: a. Articles - 6,000 or more words. b. Notes - 4,000 to 6,000 words. c. Book Reviews - 1,000 to 2,000 words.
  2. IJAL accepts manuscripts on a rolling basis.
  3. Manuscripts received during April 1 – September 30 shall be considered for publication in the January issue and manuscripts received during October 1 – March 31 will be considered for publication in the July issue.
  4. Manuscripts must be topical and related to the scope of IJAL.
  5. The manuscript must contain an abstract of not more than 200 words.
  6. The manuscript must be in conformity with the Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (19th edition).
  7. The manuscript must not contain any mention of or reference to the author’s name, affiliation or credentials. Such information must be restricted to a separate cover page which must contain a brief biographical description of the author and include the authors’ name, affiliation, qualifications and contact details.
  8. The manuscript must be contained in a Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx) document.


Editorial Policy



  1. Authors, upon submission, must communicate their acceptance of the following conditions: • The work, upon publication, becomes the property of National Law University, Jodhpur; • Permissions for subsequent publication/reprint and/or derivative works must be obtained from IJAL.
  2. IJAL follows a comprehensive blind review procedure. IJAL shall endeavour to keep the authors informed about the current status of their manuscript as it goes through each stage of review.
  3. IJAL retains complete discretion over acceptance/rejection of manuscripts.
  4. IJAL does not entertain requests for advance decisions based on abstracts, topic proposals or outlines. Editorial decisions shall be based solely on review of the final manuscripts submitted by the authors.
  5. After review by the Editors, manuscripts may be returned to the authors with suggestions related to substance and/or style.
  6. Authors of accepted articles are entitled to receive a complimentary printed copy of the issue in which their article has been published.
  7. IJAL reserves the right to request copies of any resources or authorities cited in the manuscript.
