The Rajasthan High Court on Friday directed the Addl. Police Commissioner-Traffic, Jodhpur to cancel driver's license of those found using their mobile phones while driving.

The Bench comprising Justice Gopal Krishan Vyas and Justice Ramchandra Singh Jhala issued the direction after it was informed by Additional Advocate General Mr. Rajesh Panwar that several drivers were using mobile phones while driving. This, the Court concluded, was leading to several accidents.

It then directed the photographs and other credentials of such vehicles drivers to be forwarded to the concerned R.T.O. for cancellation of their licence.

The Court ordered, "In view of above, the State Government as well as Addl. Police Commissioner-Traffic, Jodhpur are directed to ensure that no vehicle driver shall use mobile phone while driving the vehicles and if it is found that vehicles drivers are using mobile while plying the vehicles, then after obtaining their photographs and other credentials of such vehicles drivers, the same may be forwarded to the concerned R.T.O. for cancellation of driving licence of such erring person."

The R.T.O. and the authorities were further directed to initiate proceedings for such cancellation in accordance with law, and cancel the licence after providing an opportunity of being heard to the concerned driver.

The matter has now been listed on 22 May, with a direction to place a compliance report before the Court.
