Expressing concern over the issue of safety of women in the capital, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked the Delhi Police to conduct "crime-mapping" of offences against women.
"Delhi Police shall provide the court with crime mapping, particularly of crimes against women, before the next date of hearing," a Bench comprised of Acting Chief Justice B D Ahmed and Justice S Mridul directed the Delhi Police, giving it time till April 16.
The Delhi High Court's order came on a plea filed by Advocate Gaurav Kumar Bansal alleging that instances of teasing in Delhi had increased by over 700% in 2013. The petitioner wanted the Court to direct the Centre and state government to implement the guidelines laid down by Supreme Court to prevent commission of such offences.
Meanwhile, the High Court also took on record suggestions filed by advocate Richa Kapoor to make the city safer for women. Kapoor recommended setting up of "mahila suraksha dal", a comprehensive database of sex offenders, zero tolerance for public drinking and better public sanitation facilities.
