Lokpal Chairperson Justice Ajay Manikrao Khanwilkar Hoists National Flag, Reaffirms Commitment To Clean Governance
Lokpal of India Chairperson Justice Ajay Manikrao Khanwilkar hoisted the National Flag at the Lokpal premises on August 15 on the occasion of India's 80th Independence Day and reaffirmed the institution's commitment to clean and corruption-free governance, transparency, accountability and the rule of law.
The ceremony was attended by Lokpal Members Justice Lingappa Narayana Swamy, Justice Sanjay Yadav, Sushil Chandra, Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi, Pankaj Kumar and Ajay Tirkey, along with senior officers, staff members and their families.
Addressing those gathered, Justice Khanwilkar recalled Rabindranath Tagore's vision of a nation "where the mind is without fear and the head is held high." He said India's freedom was hard-earned through the sacrifices of freedom fighters and patriots, and that Independence Day serves as a reminder of both the nation's past and the responsibilities that accompany freedom.
He emphasised that true freedom includes freedom from hunger, injustice, oppression and inequality, and the opportunity for every citizen to live with dignity.
Highlighting the role of the Lokpal, Justice Khanwilkar said the increasing number of complaints reflected growing citizen engagement and confidence in the institution. He reaffirmed the Lokpal's commitment to the Constitution, rule of law, accountability, transparency, efficiency and accessibility, while stressing the effective use of technology.
He also urged officials to treat every complaint with seriousness, fairness and objectivity, noting that behind every file is a citizen seeking justice. The Chairperson concluded by thanking the Members, officers, staff and their families for their dedication and professionalism.
