Acting Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court, Justice DN Patel, who fainted during a programme in Jamshedpur on Sunday, has been discharged from hospital and is reportedly fine. Justice Patel became unconscious for a brief period during a function held to distribute government scheme benefits.

On Sunday, the Jharkhand Legal Service Authority (JHALSA) had held legal service-cum-empowerment camp in Jamshedpur in which benefits worth around Rs 91 crores were distributed among 37, 640 beneficiaries in a single day.

While addressing media persons about the achievement, Justice Patel’s head suddenly dropped backwards. Other judicial officers sitting beside him sprinkled water on his face to bring him back to consciousness. He was rushed to Tata Medical Hospital where he underwent treatment for one and a half hours in the emergency ward. He was later shifted to the cath lab for other tests.

Secretary JHALSA AK Rai, who was present in the programme, said on Monday that Justice Patel was fine now. “His blood pressure dipped due to hot weather conditions in Jamshedpur,” he said.

It may be stated here that according to Indian Metrological Department, Jamshedpur is recording the highest maximum temperature in the state in the recent days. The IMD report for the past 24 hours issued on Sunday stated that the city registered a maximum temperature of 36.8-degree centigrade.
