Justice Aniruddha Bose was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court by the Governor Droupadi Murmu yesterday.  The ceremony held at Raj Bhavan was attended by Chief Minister Raghubar Das, former Chief Ministers Arjun Munda and Hemant Soren, Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Dinesh Oraon and a host of dignitaries.

Justice Bose, the senior-most Puisne judge of Calcutta High Court, did his LL.B. from Surendranath College of Law, Calcutta, and enrolled with the Bar Council of West Bengal as an Advocate in October, 1985. He was elevated to the Bench as a permanent judge in January 2004.

The SC collegium had initially recommended his appointment as the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court. However, this recommendation was returned by the Centre, citing the reason that experience as Chief Justice was required for appointment as CJ of Delhi High Court . The collegium thereafter reconsidered its proposal, and recommended that he be appointed as the Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court instead.  This recommendation was accepted and appointment notification was issued by the President on August 3.
