The Supreme Court collegium reportedly may reassess its decision to transfer Justice Valmiki Mehta from the Delhi High Court to Gujarat High Court, if the recommendation is sent back by the government.

Justice Mehta’s transfer was initiated several months ago, allegedly following some Complaints from the Bar. Initiation of the transfer is, however, now being viewed as a stern reminder that the collegium would not hesitate in taking disciplinary action against judges who are complained against.

Meanwhile, no immediate decision is expected on the transfer of Justice K.M. Joseph from the Uttarakhand High Court to the High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad.

It was being speculated earlier that Justice K.M. Joseph’s transfer was a result of his landmark judgment quashing the President’s rule in the state. It was, however, later clarified by sources related to him that the recommendation was made by the collegium pursuant to his request on account of bad health.
