The Innovation Brief is a student-led platform at National Law University Delhi that seeks to foster informed and accessible discourse at the intersection of law, innovation, technology, intellectual property, and public policy. Through our publications and initiatives, we aim to provide a space for students, researchers, practitioners, and other stakeholders to engage with emerging legal and policy questions. The Innovation Brief is institutionally supported by the Centre for Innovation, Intellectual Property and Competition (CIIPC) at National Law University Delhi, which works towards advancing research and dialogue on issues concerning innovation, intellectual property, and competition.

About the Blog

The Innovation Brief is arranged in four subjects:

· Technology: On developments in technology and innovation and the legal issues arising from their creation, ownership, use and commercialisation.

· Markets: On the role of businesses, consumers and market forces in shaping innovation, competition and commercial activity.

· Governance: On the role of governments, regulators and other institutions in regulating technology, innovation and their wider effects.

· Courts: On the role of courts and adjudicatory bodies in interpreting and applying the law to new technologies, markets and disputes.

About Call for Blogs

The Brief takes submissions on intellectual property, technology and competition law. While the blog is primarily law-focused, we accept written submissions across all disciplines as long as they fall within the broad ambit of the intersection between technology, innovation and law. This month we are especially keen on pieces about the EU–India Free Trade Agreement and what it means for intellectual property, technology and competition law in India and Europe.

Eligibility

There is no bar on eligibility.

Theme

The FTA's IPR chapter could reshape the balance between innovation and access. We invite blogs on its implications for pharmaceutical patents, data exclusivity, compulsory licensing, generics, GIs, traditional knowledge, copyright enforcement, digital trade, competition policy, technology transfer and MSMEs, and on whether it fairly balances European protection standards with India's development and public health priorities. This list is illustrative, and other aspects of the EU-India FTA can be explored including the chapters on digital trade and anticompetitive conduct.

Formatting Guidelines

· All submissions must be in Times New Roman, font size 12, spacing 1.5, Margins: 1 inch on all sides.

· Authors are requested to adhere to the British spellings as set out in the latest edition of the Oxford English Dictionary.

· Title must be bold and underlined. First-level headings must be in bold. Second-level headings must be in italics. Formatting of headings and sub-headings must be done in the “Normal” style and not under the “Heading” styles. The first letter of each word in the heading should be capitalised.

· The relevant references must be hyperlinked. Footnote references (if necessary) must conform to the Oxford University Standard for the Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA).

· The Oxford comma must be used for three or more elements.

· Case names must be in italics, with v. rather than vs. (for example, Novartis v. Union of India & Others).

· Abbreviations must be defined in round brackets on first use, for example Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs).

· Quotations must be italicised to distinguish them from the author's own text.

· Dates must be written in the form 15 May 2025.

· Use of the symbols § and ¶ should be avoided. Instead, “sections” and “paragraphs” are to be written in full text, except when referencing paragraphs in judgments.

· All entries should be submitted in .doc or .docx format.
