The Kerala Law Academy (KLA), in joint association with the Commonwealth Legal Education Association (CLEA) and the Menon Institute of Legal Advocacy & Training (MILAT), has officially announced the launch of the CLEA-MILAT Research Mentoring Programme (RMP) 2.1. Scheduled to take place from July 25 to 28, 2026 at the Center for Advanced Legal Studies and Research (CALSAR) in Thiruvananthapuram, this immersive initiative reimagines legal research training across Indian Law Schools.
About the Programme
Conceived by Lead Mentor & Director Prof. (Dr.) S. Sivakumar (President of CLEA and former Member of the Law Commission of India), the RMP 2.1 moves away from conventional short-term workshops. It provides a structured, 6-week mentor-led ecosystem designed for law university faculty members, doctoral Ph.D. researchers, and early-career legal professionals seeking scholarly excellence. The curriculum bridges foundational gaps by equipping attendees with advanced competencies in doctrinal, analytical, and empirical socio-legal methodologies, digital research tools, literature reviews, and high-impact academic publication strategies.
A Structured, 4-Phase Trajectory
The mentoring trajectory is built across four intensive phases:
- Phase 1 (Starts July 11, 2026): Online pre-preparatory phase featuring curated self-study and digital onboarding.
- Phase 2 (July 25–28, 2026): Intensive 3-to-4 day residential offline training module at CALSAR, Punnen Road, opening with reporting at 8:30 AM on July 25.
- Phase 3 (2 Weeks): Personalized virtual one-to-one mentoring with established senior scholars and judges to refine drafts.
- Phase 4 (2 Weeks): Editorial feedback, final manuscript revisions, and target journal selection to ensure a publication-ready output.
