The Centre for Gender Studies (CGS) at National Law University, Jodhpur (NLUJ) is organizing the 1st Edition of a 3-Day Online Certificate Course on “Gender, Law & Practice”, scheduled to be held from 3rd to 5th April 2026. The programme is supported by the Women's Collective Forum (WCF) and aims to bring together students, researchers, and practitioners for a focused engagement with contemporary issues surrounding gender justice and law.

The certificate course seeks to create a platform for meaningful dialogue on the intersection of gender with law, policy, and social structures. Through a combination of academic discussions and practitioner-led sessions, the programme is designed to equip participants with a deeper understanding of gender-related legal frameworks and the challenges involved in ensuring substantive equality and access to justice.

About the Centre for Gender Studies

The Centre for Gender Studies at NLUJ is an interdisciplinary research and academic centre committed to studying questions of gender, sexuality, and power through comparative and multi-disciplinary perspectives. The Centre seeks to foster a vibrant community of scholars, students, activists, and practitioners working on gender justice.

Through seminars, workshops, panel discussions, and research initiatives, the Centre engages with contemporary socio-legal issues and contributes to academic discourse on gender equality, legal reform, and social transformation.

About the Certificate Course

The 3-Day Online Certificate Course on Gender, Law & Practice is conceived as an intensive academic and practice-oriented programme for participants from law and allied disciplines. The course recognises that questions of gender justice increasingly influence constitutional interpretation, criminal law, social welfare legislation, and judicial decision-making.

Despite progressive jurisprudence and legislative reforms, significant challenges remain in the interpretation, implementation, and accessibility of gender-related legal protections. These challenges are further complicated when gender intersects with factors such as caste, class, disability, sexuality, and environmental concerns.

The programme therefore seeks to bridge theoretical engagement with practical perspectives, enabling participants to critically analyse gender-centric legal frameworks while gaining insights from professionals working in the field.

Course Structure

The course is structured over three days, progressing from conceptual foundations to contemporary legal developments and finally to practice-oriented engagement.

Day 1: Intersectionality

The first day focuses on intersectionality as a key analytical framework for understanding gender justice. Sessions will explore how gender interacts with caste, disability, and environmental contexts to create layered forms of marginalisation.

Tentative sessions include:

• Intersection of Gender and Caste

• Intersection of Gender and Environment

Day 2: Transgender/LGBTQ+ Rights and Contemporary Themes

The second day will examine evolving legal developments relating to gender and identity. Discussions will analyse how legal institutions respond to emerging gender concerns and whether existing frameworks adequately address these realities.

Tentative sessions include:

• Transgender and LGBTQ+ Rights: Jurisprudential Developments and Continuing Challenges
• Intersection of Gender and Technology
• Intersection of International Criminal Law and Gender

Day 3: Practice-Oriented Sessions

The final day will bridge theory and practice through discussions with practitioners and professionals working in the field of gender justice.
