The Research Centre for Innovation and IP Laws (CIIL) of Hidayatullah National Law University will host a panel discussion under the aegis of Ex Arca digital platform on 26th of April, 2023 at 6.30 P.M. on the occasion of World Intellectual Property Day.

Prof. (Dr.) Sunanda Bharti, Professor of Law, University of Delhi, and Ms. Latha R. Nair, Partner, K&S Partners, will be the panelists of ‘Gendering Intellectual Property?’, in consonance with the WIPO’s theme of ‘Women and IP: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity’.

Women's access to IP rights is crucial for their economic empowerment and ability to participate fully in the innovation economy. They have been traditionally underrepresented in STEM fields and socio economic ecosystems, resulting in lagging behind the invention and entrepreneurial quotient. There is an imperative need to explore how Intellectual Property can turn out to be advantageous by enhancing women participation and empowerment. It is also pertinent to discuss the importance of gender mainstreaming in IP policy and practice, including the need for gender analysis in IP law and the development of gender-sensitive IP policies.

The Panel will also have the participation of Prof. V. C. Vivekanandan,Vice-Chancellor of HNLU, Prof. (Dr.) Uday Shankar, Registrar, HNLU. The welcome address will be delivered by Ms. Debmita Mondal, Assistant Professor, HNLU, and the event and Q&A session will be anchored by Ms. Garima Panwar, Assistant Professor, HNLU.

The panel is open for students, faculties, IP enthusiasts, and policy wonks and will be attended by faculties, students, staff members of HNLU, and all registered participants (see UR Code in the enclosed poster). The discussion will go live on the YouTube channel (https://youtube.com/@hnluofficial).
