On December 28, 2025, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Law University (DBRANLU), Sonepat, Haryana, celebrated a huge milestone in its institutional history by holding its first convocation ceremony at the prestigious Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, Janpath in New Delhi. The event marked a defining milestone for the young law university, bringing together distinguished members of India's judiciary, government officials, and proud graduates adorned in traditional Indian attire.

The ceremony was graced by the distinguished Chief Justice of India, Justice Surya Kant, who served as the chief guest for the occasion. His presence, alongside Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice Augustine George Masih, Judges of the Supreme Court of India, lent immense prestige to the proceedings. The event also witnessed the participation of Mahipal Dhanda, Education Minister of Haryana, and Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra, Senior Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The event celebrated the graduation of students from the 2019–2024 and 2020–2025 batches, emphasizing the university's commitment to excellence in legal education, constitutional values, and nation-building.The ceremony included the presentation of medals and citations to students who demonstrated outstanding performance in examinations and various academic fields

The session's keynote address was delivered by Justice Surya Kant, in his address to the graduating students described the occasion not merely as a celebration but as a moment of deep introspection and the acceptance of new responsibilities. He reminded the graduates that, as the university's pioneering batch, they occupy a special place in its history, with their conduct, values, and professional contributions destined to shape its enduring legacy for future generations. Emphasising that law transcends statutes and judgments, he declared, “Law is not merely a set of provisions, but a process of understanding society,” urging the young lawyers to treat legal education as a lifelong journey that demands a profound grasp of life, human dynamics, and societal evolution.

Justice Kant cautioned that beyond the classroom, law imparts its most rigorous lessons through real-world challenges—clients, institutions, conflicts, and outcomes—far more demanding than academic study. In an era marked by rapidly evolving technology, economic complexities, expanding rights discourse, and rising public expectations, he stressed that lawyers must provide not only effective arguments but also responsible and ethical counsel, and called upon the graduates to embrace patience, ethical decision-making, and an unwavering commitment to equity, so their careers may meaningfully advance nation-building and the ideals enshrined in the Constitution.

In an address to the first two graduating batches, Prof. (Dr.) Devender Singh, Vice-Chancellor, National Law University, Sonepat, in his address, articulated the university's commitment to excellence in legal education, innovation in research, and nurturing future legal leadership with a strong sense of nation-building. "Our objective is not merely to impart legal education, but to develop sensitive, ethical, and responsible legal professionals," He stated and highlighted the university's commitment to prepare students to meet global challenges while remaining rooted in constitutional values and social justice.

The ceremony was also attended by several distinguished guests including Justice Ashok Jain of the Rajasthan High Court, Justice Saurabh Banerjee of the Delhi High Court, Jyotsna Sharma of the National Company Law Tribunal, along with senior IAS officers, faculty members, and university staff. Education Minister Shri Mahipal Dhanda praised the university's quality legal education and research-oriented approach, expressing confidence that DBRANLU will nurture legal professionals grounded in constitutional values and social justice. MLA Shri Krishna Gahlawat called the university a source of regional pride, stating that graduates from DBRANLU will make significant contributions to justice across the country.
