DNLU's CITIL Launches Twin Edited Volumes On Decarbonisation–Trade Linkages And India's Direct Selling Sector
The Centre for Studies in International Trade and Investment Laws (CITIL), Dharmashastra National Law University (DNLU), Jabalpur, organised the launch of two edited volumes titled “Decarbonisation, Trade and Climate Change: Developing Countries' Perspective” and “Direct Selling Business in India: Issues, Challenges and Prospects”, published by Thomson Reuters, at the DNLU Campus.
The books were formally released by the Chief Guest, Shri Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Chief Justice, High Court of Madhya Pradesh (Chief Guest & Chief Patron), and Shri Justice Vivek Agarwal, Judge, High Court of Madhya Pradesh (Guest of Honour & Patron), in the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Kumar Sinha, Vice Chancellor, DNLU, Dr. Praveen Tripathi, Registrar and Mr. Utkarsh K. Mishra (Director, CITIL, DNLU).
During their addresses, Chief Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva emphasised the urgent need for a balanced approach between environmental responsibility and economic development in shaping global trade policies, while Justice Vivek Agarwal highlighted the significance of strengthening regulatory frameworks to support sustainable business practices in emerging sectors such as direct selling. Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Kumar Sinha underscored the importance of academic research in informing policymaking on climate change, trade, and evolving commercial models, and Dr. Praveen Tripathi, stressed upon the need for interdisciplinary dialogue to tackle contemporary challenges.
The event included two thematic panel discussions, the first panel focused on “Decarbonisation, Trade and Climate Change: A Developing Countries' Perspective” was chaired by DNLU Faculties of law including Ms. Swati Singh Parmar, Dr. Shruti Nandwana, and Ms. Srishti Yadav and moderated by Ms. Dishita Singh. The second panel focused on “Direct Selling Business: Issues, Challenges and Prospects” was chaired by Dr. Praveen Tripathi, Registrar Dr. Gargi Chakrabarti, Controller of Examinations and Mr. Shashank Pathak, Assistant Professor of Law, moderated by Ms. Shreem Shukla.
The books have been edited by Prof. Manoj Kumar Sinha and Mr. Utkarsh K. Mishra (Director, CITIL, DNLU). The first book examines the complex balance developing economies must maintain between economic growth and global sustainability obligations in the context of evolving international trade dynamics. The second book discusses India's rapidly expanding direct selling industry, addressing its consumer-centric model while exploring regulatory concerns, market challenges, and competitive structures. The volumes highlight crucial contemporary themes.
The event was organised jointly by the student team of the Centre for Studies in International Trade and Investment Laws (CITIL), namely: Mr. Suryansh Pandey (Convenor), Ms. Aditi Mishra (Convenor), Ms. Dishita Singh (Student Secretary), Ms. Shreem Shukla (Head, Trade-cum-Incubation Centre), and Mr. Kalpit Jain (Student Joint Secretary).
