HPNLU Shimla Hosts 6th National Moot Court Competition 2026; Army Institute Of Law Emerges Winner

The Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, through its Moot Court Committee, successfully organised the 6th National Moot Court Competition, 2026, in collaboration with the National Human Rights Commission of India. The competition aimed to promote advocacy skills and advance discourse on human rights among law students across the country.

The final round of the competition was adjudicated by Justice Ajay Mohan Goel, Justice Sushil Kukreja, and Justice Romesh Verma, Judges of the Himachal Pradesh High Court; Prof. (Dr.) Vijender Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur; and Senior Advocate Peeyush Verma, Former President of the Himachal Pradesh High Court Bar Association. The quarter-final, semi-final, and advanced rounds were judged by members of the legal and academic fraternity.

The competition witnessed participation from 74 teams representing various law institutions and National Law Universities. Based on memorial evaluation, 32 teams were shortlisted for the preliminary rounds conducted online, out of which 8 teams advanced to the quarter-finals held at the university campus. These included Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law; Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi; Chanakya National Law University, Patna; Symbiosis Law School, Pune; Army Institute of Law, Mohali; Institute of Law, Nirma University; School of Excellence in Law, Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University; and Hidayatullah National Law University.

Following rigorous rounds, four teams—Army Institute of Law, Mohali; Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law; Symbiosis Law School, Pune; and School of Excellence in Law, Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University—advanced to the semi-finals. The final round was contested between Army Institute of Law, Mohali and School of Excellence in Law, Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, with Army Institute of Law, Mohali emerging as the winner.

Prizes were awarded across team and individual categories. The winning team received ₹60,000, while the runner-up team was awarded ₹40,000, along with certificates of excellence. Awards for best team (petitioner) and best team (respondent) carried ₹15,000 each. In individual categories, the best orator (male) and best orator (female) were awarded ₹10,000 each, while the best researcher received ₹20,000.

The valedictory session was graced by Prof. (Dr.) Vijender Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, MNLU Nagpur. The University expressed its appreciation to the National Human Rights Commission of India for its collaboration in enhancing the scale and impact of the competition.

The event was conducted under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Girjesh Shukla, Director, Centre for Clinical Legal Education, and Dr. Shaifali Dixit, Chairperson, Moot Court Committee, whose supervision ensured the smooth execution of the competition.

The competition concluded on a successful note, reaffirming HPNLU's commitment to excellence in legal education and advocacy training.
