RGNUL Holds Orientation Programme For Newly Admitted UG, PG Students; Justice Rajesh Bindal Calls For Commitment To Constitutional Values

The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by former Supreme Court Judge Justice Rajesh Bindal, former Punjab and Haryana High Court Judge Justice Manjari Nehru, RGNUL Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Jai Shankar Singh, Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Rattan Singh, AIU Joint Secretary (Youth Affairs Division) Dr. Alok Mishra, RGNUL Registrar Dr. Ivneet Kaur Walia, and Dean Students' Welfare and Dean Research Prof. (Dr.) Kamaljit Kaur.

Welcoming the students and their parents, Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Jai Shankar Singh encouraged the incoming batch to pursue excellence with integrity, discipline and compassion while making full use of the opportunities available at the University.

Registrar Dr. Ivneet Kaur Walia introduced the University and highlighted its academic achievements, research ecosystem, student support systems and opportunities in mooting, legal aid, sports, culture and community engagement.

Presenting the admissions report, Dr. Abhinandan Bassi stated that the admissions process, which began with the first CLAT merit list on 7 January 2026 and concluded after the fifth merit list on 30 May 2026, resulted in admissions to 219 undergraduate seats and 145 postgraduate seats. He added that the University's expression of interest process for the remaining vacancies received over 600 responses for 12 available seats.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) Rattan Singh urged students to remain intellectually curious and lifelong learners, while Dr. Alok Mishra encouraged them to become responsible citizens, uphold discipline and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.

Justice Manjari Nehru advised students to uphold integrity, humility and compassion throughout their professional journey. Delivering the chief guest address, Justice Rajesh Bindal called upon students to cultivate discipline, perseverance, professional ethics and an unwavering commitment to constitutional values and justice.

During the programme, the dignitaries also released the book "The BNSS, 2023", authored by Dr. Manoj Sharma, Associate Professor of Law, RGNUL Punjab, and Prof. Gurpal Singh, former Professor of Law, Punjabi University.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Kamaljit Kaur, followed by the National Anthem and an interaction between the students, faculty and the university administration.
