RGNUL Punjab Marks Constitution Day 2025 With Focus On Legal Literacy And Constitutional Values
Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab, observed Constitution Day 2025 with a thoughtful and engaging programme organised by the RGNUL Legal Aid Clinic in collaboration with the Centre for Innovation in Intellectual Property Rights (CIIPR). The event brought together faculty members, research scholars, students, and the Investigating Officers currently attending the Capacity Building Workshop on campus.
The programme was presided over by Dr. Ivneet Walia, Registrar, RGNUL Punjab. The Keynote Address was delivered by Professor (Dr.) Naresh Kumar Vats, Dean Academics and Coordinator, CIIPR. He reflected on the enduring relevance of the Preamble to the Constitution and emphasised that its guiding principles—Justice, Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity—must be upheld with sincerity in both personal conduct and institutional practice. He highlighted how the Preamble continues to shape the country's democratic values and remains a constant source of guidance and inspiration.
Professor Vats also expressed appreciation for the Investigating Officers participating in the Capacity Building Workshop. He acknowledged their crucial role in maintaining fairness, accountability, and transparency within the justice system, describing them as protectors of constitutional values through their everyday responsibilities. His remarks reinforced the link between ethical investigation and the broader commitment to constitutional governance.
During the programme, the RGNUL Legal Aid Clinic conducted a brief session for the Officers on the significance of legal aid in NDPS trials. The team explained how informed legal assistance, procedural awareness, and timely coordination help ensure that such trials remain fair and consistent with constitutional safeguards. They emphasised that legal aid is not only essential for accused individuals but also vital for strengthening the justice delivery system as a whole.
The Constitution Day event created a meaningful space for dialogue, reflection, and shared learning. It reaffirmed RGNUL's commitment to promoting legal literacy, encouraging responsible institutional practices, and nurturing a deeper understanding of constitutional values among all stakeholders, including the Law Enforcement Officers who play a vital role in upholding the rule of law.
