RPNLU, Prayagraj Signs MoU With BRICS Law Schools Consortium In Moscow

Dr. Rajendra Prasad National Law University (RPNLU), Prayagraj has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the BRICS Law Schools Consortium on 2 December 2025 in Moscow, Russia, marking a step towards expanding its international academic engagement.The MoU was signed by the Vice-Chancellor of RPNLU, Sr. Prof. (Dr.) Usha Tandon. With the execution of the agreement, RPNLU has become one of the founding members of the BRICS Law Schools Consortium.

The BRICS Law Schools Consortium was hosted by the Law Faculty of HSE University, Moscow, Russia. The Consortium functions as an association of law schools and institutions from BRICS nations, focusing on collaborative research, academic exchange, and knowledge sharing.

This Consortium focuses on exploring and analyzing legal systems of BRICS nations, aiming to uncover both their similarities and differences while identifying key areas for potential cooperation. By fostering a spirit of collaboration, the Consortium enhances research, sparks innovation, and encourages expert dialogue within the field of law, ultimately deepening the understanding of BRICS jurisdictions.

The key objectives of the BRICS Law Schools Consortium include, Accumulate knowledge about the legal systems of the BRICS countries and select promising areas of cooperation; Promote academic mobility and cultural exchange; Expand academic research cooperation; Conduct joint training of professional international lawyers; Exchange experience and best practices in the field of legal education; Exchange information, develop and improve legal instruments for states and businesses of the BRICS countries, provide legal support for regional development strategies, etc.

By signing the MoU, the Parties declare their intention to foster cooperation through academic and educational activities that align with the spirit of BRICS, characterized by mutual respect and understanding. Parties agree to commit to establishing the BRICS Law Schools Consortium based on the principles of mutual benefit and full reciprocity. The Parties shall engage in the activities of the BRICS Law Schools Consortium as deemed useful and necessary, which may encompass, but are not limited to, joint research initiatives, academic exchanges, collaborative teaching programs and publications, as well as knowledge sharing in the field of law.

This MoU has further strengthened the growing international identity of the RPNLU, Prayagraj. Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Sr. Prof. (Dr.) Usha Tandon stated, “The association with the BRICS Law Schools Consortium marks an important step in RPNLU's commitment to globally engaged legal education and research. This collaboration will enable meaningful comparative legal scholarship, strengthen academic exchange, and prepare our students and faculty to contribute effectively to international legal discourse while remaining rooted in constitutional values and social responsibility.” Under her visionary leadership, the University has steadily expanded its international outreach through academic collaborations and participation in global legal forums.

The University has earlier signed the MoU with Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria for a meaning academic exchange. The present association with the BRICS Law Schools Consortium reinforces the University's commitment to advancing knowledge through collaboration and to nurturing globally competent legal professionals.
