Centre for Civil Society: The Jeevika Fellowship To Protect The Rights Of Street Vendors In Delhi [ Apply By 31 March 2022]

Update: 2022-03-16 09:45 GMT

Livelihood needs liberty. Liberty needs you!

Join the Jeevika Fellowship to protect the rights of street vendors in Delhi

Samjad—a fruit-vendor in the Yusuf Sarai market—was arbitrarily penalised INR 2000-3000 for accumulation of rubbish and causing nuisance under the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957. But the penalty under this Act is only INR 50. Centre for Civil Society (CCS) helped him to contest the fine before the Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ), Saket Court. ASJ observed that the penalty cannot exceed INR 50 and remanded the case to the Municipal Magistrate who quashed the penalty.

Hundreds of street vendors across Delhi face harassment like Samjad on a daily basis. They need you!

"Working with CCS in the past two years was an ever rewarding experience. The working environment was welcoming, thought-provoking and accommodating. The people I worked and interacted with were all very approachable and helpful. Working at CCS never felt like work. It always led to learning something new and widening my horizons. Lastly, CCS provided me with a real sense of purpose as the policy work CCS does is substantive and tangible, unlike theoretical research." - Sriram Prasad, CCS Alumnus
