2023 Parliament Security Breach: Delhi Court Grants Interim Bail To Accused On Humanitarian Grounds

A Delhi Court recently granted interim bail to an accused in the Parliament security breach case which happened on December 13, 2023, on humanitarian grounds.

Additional Sessions Judge Amit Bansal of Patiala House Courts granted relief to accused Sagar Sharma, who said that his father passed away on July 14 because of cancer.

Sharma also said that he needed to perform cremation rituals as he is the only male member in his family.

The Court clarified that it was granting the relief only on humanitarian grounds and not on merits of the case. Notably, the Delhi Police did not oppose the plea.

The judge directed the accused not to give any interview or hold any press conference or address the media, while on bail.

He is also directed not to post anything related to the incident on social media platforms.

In a major security breach on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack, two persons jumped into the chamber of Lok Sabha from the public gallery when the Zero Hour was in session. The duo was identified as Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D.

In the photographs and videos that surfaced on social media, the two were seen holding canisters which released yellow gas. They were also shouting slogans. However, they were overpowered by some of the Member of Parliaments (MPs).

Two other accused, identified as Amol Shinde and Neelam Azad, also sprayed coloured gas from similar canisters outside the premises of the Parliament. They were reportedly shouting "tanashahi nahi chalegi.”
