Advocate Mahendra Shandilya has won the election for the post of President of Rajasthan High Court Bar Association as per results declared recently. The total number of votes cast were 4494 on elections which took place on Friday.
Shandilya won the election for the presidential post by a margin of 542 Votes, securing 1621 votes out, defeating his nearest contender Prahlad Sharma, who secured 1079 Votes.
The other contenders for the post of the President of the Rajasthan High Court Bar Association were Kapil Prakash Mathur (794 votes), Manu Bhargava (398 votes), Rohan Jain (385 votes), Ramavtar (143) and Babu Lal Saini (28 votes).
Advocate Balram Vashisth has been elected as the General Secretary of the Association. Vashisth secured 1292 votes and defeated Dr. Sanjay Khedar by a margin of 108 Votes. Other contenders for the post were Dharmendra Jain, Susheel Pujari, Pallav Sharma, Rohit Sharma, and Jagmeet Singh.
Narendra Kumar Tiwari and Sharvan Saini have been elected as Vice-Presidents, with Devang Chaturvedi being elected as the Joint Secretary.
Further, Hitesh Mishra has been elected as the new Treasurer of the Bar Association, Shilpa Sharma as the Social Secretary, Pramila Sharma as the Library Secretary and Narendra Sharma as the Joint Library Secretary.
In the elections, 29 candidates contested for eight posts of 'Executive Members,' out of which Manish Singh Tomar, Satish Kumar Balwada, Jagdish Nagar, Abhishek Sharma, Anjani Kumar Sharma, Kamlesh Sharma, Sameer Sharma and Sunil Kumar Sharma were elected to eight posts.
Notably, the elections were a matter of dispute which had reached the Rajasthan High Court and the Supreme Court.
On Thursday, a day before the elections, the Supreme Court had permitted the Rajasthan High Court Bar Association to conduct elections strictly in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the Rajasthan High Court and without contravening the principle of 'One Bar, One Vote.'
The decision of the Supreme Court was passed by a division bench of Justice M.R. Shah and Justice C.T. Ravikumar and had come as a major relief to the Bar Association since the Bar Council of India had earlier stayed the elections on receiving a complaint regarding the lack of fairness and transparency in the process.
