AI Summit Protest: Delhi Court Remands Indian Youth Congress President Uday Bhanu Chib To 4 Days Police Custody

A Delhi court today remanded Indian Youth Congress (IYC) President Uday Bhanu Chib to four days of police custody in relation to the shirtless protest at the recent India AI Impact Summit at Bharat Mandapam.

Judicial Magistrate First Class Ravi of Patiala House Courts passed the order after the Delhi Police sought seven days of custody for Chib for the purpose of custodial interrogation.

The judge allowed the application moved by the IO partly and remanded Chib to police custody for four days commencing from today till February 28.

“On expiry of the said period, the IO shall produce the accused before the concerned court or the concerned duty magistrate, along with a detailed remand report,” the court said.

Senior Advocate Sanjoy Ghose represented Chib.

The Court has ordered that during the police custody, the IO has to abide by all constitutional and statutory safeguards, including those relating to medical examination, maintenance of the case diary and production of the accused before the court within the stipulated time.

The judge also said that during the said period, Chib will have the right to meet his counsel during interrogation according to Section 38 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

The AI Impact Summit 2026 began on February 16. Various persons were arrested after the accused wore T-shirts bearing images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, with slogans against the government and the India-US trade deal.
