Delhi Court Cancels Arrest Warrant Against SFI Leader Aishe Ghosh In 2021 Protest Case

A Delhi court on Thursday cancelled the non-bailable warrant issued against Students' Federation of India (SFI) leader Aishe Ghosh in connection with a 2021 case relating to a protest held outside Bangla Bhavan.

Judicial Magistrate First Class of Patiala House Courts cancelled the NBW after she physically appeared before the Court today.

The court has cancelled the warrant subject to fine of Rs. 1,000.

Notably, the NBW was stayed by the judge yesterday and Ghosh was directed to appear in person.

The FIR pertains to a demonstration organised in front of Bangla Bhavan in 2021. Ghosh has been booked for offences including alleged disobedience of an order promulgated by a public servant(S.188 IPC) and criminal trespass(S. 447 IPC). Chargesheet has already been filed against her in the case.

The development comes after the Communist Party of India (Marxist) alleged that Delhi Police attempted to arrest Ghosh from the party's national headquarters in New Delhi. Videos circulating on social media showed CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas confronting a woman police official who was not in uniform.

Ghosh recently emerged as one of the prominent faces of the student agitation at Jantar Mantar led by the SFI over examination-related issues. The protests culminated in the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on July 25.  

Ghosh was represented by Advocates KN Jayashankar, KR Subhash Chandran and Jaimon Andrews.
