Reacting strongly to the broad daylight murder of Uttar Pradesh Bar Council President Darvesh Singh today, the Bar Council of India has demanded that a compensation of Rs 50 Lakh be given to the family of the deceased besides strict security for members of the Bar across country.

BCI chairman Manan Kumar Mishra said the incident has proven that lawyers are not safe.

He said the shooting incident has sent shock waves among the legal fraternity.

Mishra said the Uttar Pradesh government must grant a compensation of Rs 50 lakh to the family of Darvesh Singh.

Darvesh Singh was the first woman President of UP Bar Council.

She was allegedly shot dead by a lawyer named Manish Sharma this afternoon on her visit to the Agra Civil Court post her election to the post.

It was during a ceremony following her election that Sharma shot three bullets at Singh before shooting himself.
