Former Registrar of NLU-D and current Vice-Chancellor of NLU-Odisha, Prof. (Dr.) Srikrishna Deva Rao, has been elected as the Vice Chancellor of the National Law University, Delhi.

The three-member Selection Committee elected Prof. Rao to replace NLU-D's Founding VC, Prof Ranbir Singh.

Prof. Singh's second five-year term as the NLU-D VC expired today.

Prof. Rao has actively involved with legal education and research in India at four National Law Schools:

  • NLSIU, Bangalore (1990-1995 & 1997-98)
  • NALSAR, Hyderabad (1998-2004)
  • GNLU, Gandhi Nagar (2004-2007)
  • NLU-D (2010-14)

He holds a Master's degree in Law from Kakatiya University, Warangal; Master of Philosophy in Law from NLSIU, Bangalore and Ph.D. from Delhi University.

He was a visiting fellow at School of Oriental & African Studies, SOAS, London (2013) and University of Washington at Seattle (2012),

He was a member of the UGC expert committee in Law to transform legal education in India (2010-2012).

including short stint with Jawaharlal Nehru University (1995-96) and University of Delhi (1996-97).

He has engaged with several research projects with UKERI, UNDP, Law Commission of India and Ministry of Law and Justice etc.

He was a consultant to the Indian Medical Association, Swedish Development Cooperation, Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, Child Rights and You and Swedish National Science Foundation.

He has been elected as the new NLU-D VC from amongst the following two candidates who were shortlisted by the Selection Committee:

Prof Paramjit Jaswal, VC of RGNUL Patiala

Prof Afzal Wani, Dean of University School of Law and Legal Studies, GGSIPU
