Delhi Court Denies Anticipatory Bail To Law Graduate In Fake LLB Degree Case, Cites 'Syndicate' Operating In Delhi Bar Council
A Delhi Court has denied anticipatory bail to a law graduate accused of obtaining enrolment with the Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) on the basis of a fake LLB degree and marksheet.
Additional Sessions Judge Shunali Gupta of Saket Courts said that the allegations against J Vasanthan were serious in nature and that the suspension order issued by BCD said that verification of his LLB Degree and verification was found fake.
The judge also noted that as per the report of the investigating officer, 106 FIRs have been registered at Hauz Khas police station during 2020 to 2025 regarding fake LLB degrees and fake registration in BCD.
“Considering the totality of facts and circumstances and taking note o f the serious allegations not just against the applicant herein but others named in the investigation who run a syndicate in facilitating enrollment in Bar Council(s) on the basis of fake documents, in order to unearth the conspiracy behind and to reach out to other members of the syndicate, custodial interrogation of the applicant may be needed. Therefore, at this stage, I do not find any ground for grant o f anticipatory bail,” the Court said.
Vasanthan did his graduation from Bhartiya Shiksha Parishad, Uttar Pradesh. He was enrolled with Bar Council of Delhi in 2023.
The FIR alleged that Vasanthan obtained enrollment with the Bar Council of Delhi using a fake LLB degree and marksheet from Bundelkhand University, Jhansi. This lead to suspension of his license on September 16.
He claimed innocence, stating his genuine LLB was from Bhartiya Shiksha Parishad, Uttar Pradesh, which is not recognized for law degrees. He said that two agents altered documents after he paid them Rs. 95,000.
