A Delhi Court on Tuesday sought response of the Delhi Police on the anticipatory bail plea moved by Congress MP and JNU professor Angomcha Bimol Akoijam in a case accusing him of sexual harassment.

Special Judge Digvinay Singh of the Rouse Avenue Courts, while listing the matter for further consideration on November 05, said that no action will be taken against Akoijam till then.

The judge also directed the investigating officer (IO) to appear with the case file on the next date of hearing.

Yesterday, the Delhi High Court had stayed Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) administration's decision to terminate the services of Bimol Akoijam.

Akoijam, who represents the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha constituency, was a professor at JNU's School of Social Sciences.

The university had dismissed him from service on October 9 following allegations of sexual harassment by several female students.

According to reports, at least 11 students had filed complaints against Akoijam in May. The complainants alleged that he invited them to his campus residence under the pretext of meetings or gatherings and attempted to sexually harass them. Some students also alleged that he made obscene and inappropriate remarks during classes.

The termination order, signed by JNU Vice-Chancellor Santishree D Pandit, stated that the university's Internal Complaints Committee had conducted an inquiry into the allegations and recommended disciplinary action based on its findings.

The order stated that the punishment of dismissal was imposed after following due process and considering the facts and the Internal Committee's report.

Akoijam has denied the allegations.
