Delhi Riots UAPA Case: Court Allows Tasleem Ahmad To Travel To West Bengal For Son's Shooting Competition
A Delhi Court has permitted Tasleem Ahmad, an accused in the 2020 Delhi riots larger conspiracy case, to travel to Asansol, West Bengal, to accompany his son for a shooting competition scheduled later this month.
Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai of Karkardooma Courts allowed Ahmad's application seeking permission to travel from September 22 to September 26.
For context, Ahmed was granted six months of interim mail in May by Supreme Court.
The plea stated that Ahmad's son is scheduled to participate in a shooting competition in Asansol on September 24, and that he sought additional days to account for travel.
Ahmed produced his Aadhaar card, the official notice concerning the shooting event and his son's admit card in support of the application.
On the other hand, the Special Public Prosecutor opposed the plea but submitted that if the court was inclined to permit the travel, appropriate conditions could be imposed.
The court thereafter allowed the application and permitted Ahmad to travel to Asansol from September 22 to September 26.
While granting the permission, the court directed Ahmed not to speak to the media regarding the case.
He has also been directed not to come in contact with anyone other than the participants and organisers of the shooting event.
Further, the court directed that he shall not visit any place other than Asansol, West Bengal, during the permitted period.
The case arises out of FIR No. 59 of 2020 registered at Crime Branch. The UAPA case alleging larger conspiracy in the commission of 2020 North-East Delhi riots.
The accused, who were student activists in the forefront of organising anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protests in 2019-2020, are facing charges under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and the Indian Penal Code for allegedly formulating the "larger conspiracy" behind the communal riots which took place in the national capital in the last week of February 2020.
The accused in the UAPA case are Tahir Hussain, Umar Khalid, Khalid Saifi, Isharat Jahan, Meeran Haider, Gulfisha Fatima, Shifa-Ur-Rehman, Asif Iqbal Tanha, Shadab Ahmed, Tasleem Ahmed, Saleem Malik, Mohd. Saleem Khan, Athar Khan, Safoora Zargar, Sharjeel Imam, Faizan Khan, Devangana Kalita and Natasha Narwal.
