Gujarat Court Sentences Five Convicts To 5-Years Imprisonment In 2016 Una Flogging Case

A Gujarat Court in Veraval, Gir Somanth district on Tuesday (March 17) sentenced five persons to 5-year imprisonment in the 2016 Una Flogging Case, pertaining to attack on four Dalit men for skinning the carcass of a dead cow in Una on July 11, 2016.

It was alleged that the men were also illegally put in the police lockup and were beaten by police officials.

As per a report by PTI, the Sessions Court also imposed fine on the five convicts. 

On Monday, the sessions court had convicted the five persons in the flogging case, while also acquitting 35 other accused persons.

The five men are stated to be convicted under IPC Sections 323 (causing simple hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 504 (intentional insult) and Sections 3 (1)(D) and 3 (1)(E)(R)(S)(U) of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
