The Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) National Executive Member - Preeti Menon - has submitted a complaint to the Mumbai Police for registration of an FIR against actor Kangana Ranaut for her alleged seditious remarks aired on Times Now channel, yesterday.

Menon sought an an FIR to be lodged at the Andheri police station under sections under Sections 504 (Intentional insult to provoke breach), 505 (statements leading to public mischief) and 124A (sedition) of the Indian Penal Code.

The AAP member alleged that Ranaut disentitled the freedom struggle and the sacrifice of martyrs with statements like in 1947 India got freedom in alms and it was not true freedom.

The actor further claimed that India got true independence only in 2014 ( When the Narendra Modi led BJP government came to power,) not in 1947.

Ranaut was a guest speaker on the Times Now Summit 2021, celebrating India after 75 years of Independence.

"She has disentitled the freedom struggle and the sacrifices of martyrs. We demand a case be registered against her for provoking public public and sedition," the complaint said.
