Karnataka Govt Notifies Appointments For New Law Officers Including 13 Additional Advocate Generals

The Karnataka government has announced key appointments to the office of the Advocate General, appointing two State Public Prosecutors, two Additional State Public Prosecutors, and 13 Additional Advocate Generals to represent the government. 

Advocate B.N. Jagadeesh has been appointed as State Public Prosecutor-I, while Advocate Vijayakumar Majage has been appointed as State Public Prosecutor-2. 

The appointments were made through two notifications bearing issued on June 12, 2026, by the Department of Law, Justice and Human Rights (Administration).

The first notification issued under Rule 23 of the Karnataka Law Officers (Recruitment and Service Conditions) Rules, 1977, has made the following appointments for a period of one year or until further orders:

The notification notes that Sri B.N. Jagadish has been appointed in place of Sri B.A. Belliyappa, who previously held the post of State Public Prosecutor-1.

In a separate notification issued under Article 162 of the Constitution of India, the government has appointed 13 lawyers as Additional Advocate Generals with immediate effect, until further orders.

The newly appointed Additional Advocate Generals are:

5. Kiran Vasant Ron,

6. Pratima Honnapura,

12. Pradeep Gaonkar and

13. Vijay Kumar YH

The appointments are effective from the date of the notification, i.e., June 12, 2026.

After Siddaramaiah resigned from the Chief Minister's post on May 28, the former Deputy CM D K Shivakumar now leads the state government as Chief Minister. The notification appointing new law officers have been issued after DK Shivakumar has begun his tenure as the 18th Chief Minister of Karnataka on June 3.
