The Judicial First Class Magistrate-1, Ernakulam has granted custody of Malayalam film director Renjith Balakrishnan to police till Monday (April 6) in the sexual harassment case lodged against him.
L. Usha, Magistrate allowed the custody application preferred by the police, granting permission to interrogate the director for three days from today till Monday.
Earlier this week, the Magistrate court had remanded Renjith to judicial custody after his arrest. His bail application is presently pending before the Magistrate and will be considered on Tuesday (April 7).
A specific direction was also passed to produce Renjith before the doctor considering his medical condition on account of the fact that he had undergone liver transplantation.
Renjith was taken into custody on March 31 following a complaint by an actress, who alleged that he had attempted to sexually assault her at a film shooting location. An FIR has been lodged against Renjith by Vanitha Cell, Ernakulam following the complaint.
Two cases of sexual assault were registered against Renjith in 2024 following allegations made against him in the wake of the release of the Justice Hema Committee report. In October, 2025 the Kerala High Court had quashed the proceedings in one of the sexual harassment case, noting delay in lodging the complaint.
