Kerala Court Reserves Verdict In Film Director Renjith's Bail Plea In Sexual Assault Case, Order Likely On Friday
The Judicial First Class Magistrate-1, Ernakulam has reserved its verdict in the bail plea of film director Renjith Balakrishnan, who is arrayed in a sexual assault case.
Smt. L. Usha, Magistrate orally said that order would be passed on April 10 (Friday).
Renjith is accused of the offences punishable under Sections 127 [Wrongful confinement], 79 [Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman] 75 [Sexual harassment] and 74 [Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty] of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Renjith was taken into custody on March 31 following a complaint by an actress, who alleged that he had attempted to sexually assault her at a film shooting location. An FIR has been lodged against Renjith by Vanitha Cell, Ernakulam following the complaint.
The Magistrate Court had earlier remanded Renjith to judicial custody after his arrest and thereafter, allowed the custody application preferred by the police, granting permission to interrogate the director for three days.
Two cases of sexual assault were registered against Renjith in 2024 following allegations made against him in the wake of the release of the Justice Hema Committee report. In October, 2025 the Kerala High Court had quashed the proceedings in one of the sexual harassment cases, noting delay in lodging the complaint.
