The members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) have moved the Madras High Court seeking permission to conduct a procession (Route March) wearing their uniform and led by a musical band on 2nd October 2022 and conduct a public meeting thereafter.
When the seven petitions came up before the bench of Justice GK Ilanthiraiyan, the bench was informed that fifty more petitions are to be filed. The court, thus adjourned the matter to September 22 to consider all the matters together.
The petitions, discussing the vast history and the nature of work conducted by the organisation, informed the court that in view of the 75th year of lndia's independence, the Birth Centenary of Barath Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Vijaydasamy, the organisation had decided to conduct the procession wearing their uniform and led by a musical band.
An application in this regard was also submitted to the Inspector of Police, Korattur. However, no decision has been taken on the application till date. The petitioner also submitted that the petitioners were granting permission to all other political parties and it was only with respect to the RSS, that the authorities were acting against interest.
Senior Advocates G Rajagopalan and S Prabhakaran and Advocate Rabu Manohar appeared for the petitioners while Additional Public Prosecutor Raj Tilak appeared for the state.
