The National Green Tribunal (NGT) is organising a two-day International Conference on “The Future of Environment and Climate Dynamics – 2026” on 19 and 20 September 2026 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The Conference seeks to provide a distinguished global platform for dialogue, deliberation and exchange of best practices on some of the most pressing environmental and climate challenges confronting the world today.

The Conference is proposed to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, in the presence of  the Chief Justice of India, Mr. Justice Surya Kant,  the Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav, the Attorney General for India, Shri R. Venkataramani, and the Chairperson, NGT, Shri Justice Prakash Shrivastava.

The Conference aims to foster meaningful dialogue and identify gaps in policy formulation and enforcement, while promoting environmental awareness, sharing successful practices and strengthening cooperation among institutions and stakeholders. It will provide an interdisciplinary and inter-jurisdictional platform to address environmental challenges of the present and develop a forward-looking roadmap for a sustainable future.

The two-day Conference will bring together Judges from around the world, environmental experts, Judges of the Supreme Court of India and High Courts, District Court Judges, Secretaries of various Ministries, senior government officials, representatives of State Judicial Academies, State Legal Services Authorities, SEACs, SEIAAs, State Wetland Authorities, SALSAs and other stakeholders, reflecting its broad multidisciplinary character.

The Conference will comprise four technical sessions focusing on critical and environmental issues.

The Valedictory Session, scheduled for 20 September 2026, will be graced by the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, as the Chief Guest. The session will be held in the presence of  Shri Manohar Lal, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Mr. Justice P. S. Narasimha, Judge, Supreme Court of India, Mr. Justice Prakash Shrivastava, Chairperson, NGT, and Mr. Tushar Mehta, Solicitor General of India.

The participation of the President of India in the Valedictory Session will lend special significance to the Conference and underline the importance accorded to environmental protection, climate action and environmental justice at the highest institutional level.
